The match, held at Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium on October 9, 1987, has since become a classic example of a nail-biting finish.

Australia, after being put into bat first, posted a competitive total of 270/6 in their allotted 50 overs.Their innings was anchored by a stellar century from Geoff Marsh, who played a crucial knock of 110 runs. His innings was well-supported by David Boon, who contributed a steady 49, and Dean Jones, who added a valuable 39.
