Former Royal Challengers Bengaluru skipper Faf du Plessis took to Instagram to bid farewell to the franchise after not being retained by the team. Delhi Capitals acquired his services for Rs 2 crore in the IPL mega auction ahead of the 2025 season.
Faf wrote on his social media account: “As my chapter with RCB closes, I want to take a moment to reflect on what an incredible journey this has been. When I joined three years ago, I had no idea how this journey would unfold. But I fell in love with the city of Bengaluru and the amazing people of RCB. This place and its people have become a part of who I am, and I’ll carry these memories and the connections I’ve built with me forever. Thank you for making these three years so special.”
“Playing at the Chinnaswamy Stadium has been one of the most electric experiences of my career. The energy, the passion, and the support from the fans make it truly one of a kind. Every time I stepped onto that field, the atmosphere was nothing short of magical,” he added.
“As I say goodbye, I want to express my deepest gratitude to everyone—the fans, my teammates, the staff, coaches, and owners. It’s been an honour to be a part of this journey with you. Much love,” he concluded.
Faf du Plessis led the RCB team to an incredible season in IPL 2024. The team were at the bottom of the table in the first half of the tournament but went on to win all their matches in the second half to qualify for the playoffs.
The pinnacle of this story came when Du Plessis led RCB against his former franchise, Chennai Super Kings. In a must-win match for RCB, CSK already had an advantage as they would have qualified for the playoffs even if they lost, provided they maintained their net run rate despite finishing with the same points.
Du Plessis and his team not only won the match but also ensured that CSK’s net run rate took a heavy beating, allowing RCB to qualify for the playoffs after winning six matches in a row. Despite the disappointing start, the captain led from the front and maintained his composure during crunch moments.
In the three years he played for RCB since 2022, Du Plessis scored 400-plus runs in every season, creating his own record for scoring the most runs in an IPL season in 2023, where he amassed 730 runs.
