Shubman Gill gives update on his fitness

NEW DELHI: India batter Shubman Gill, who missed the first Test against Australia in Perth owing to a thumb injury, provided an update on his fitness after returning to nets on Friday ahead of the pink-ball warm-up game against Australian PM’s XI starting Saturday.
“Any ball when it hits the bat, especially in the middle of the bat. The feeling that you get, that’s the feeling that I play for. When I got to know about my injury, for the first couple of days, I was quite low, a bit disappointed,” Gill said in a video shared by BCCI on their X handle.

Gill expressed regret over missing the Perth match, the only venue in Australia where he has yet to play. However, he shared his happiness over the team’s dominant performance, outplaying the hosts to secure a commanding 295-run victory.
“Perth is the only venue where I haven’t played. When we came the last time, I was looking forward to playing there, and it’s such an iconic venue. But the way we played that game, and by the end of it, I was very happy with the way that we played and we won the game,” he added.
“But it was my first day. I was just trying to get a feel, to be honest, see how the injury is reacting. If there is any kind of jarness or any kind of soreness with me playing. But it actually went much better than I expected and Kamlesh bhai expected and I’m very happy with that,” Gill further said.
The top-order batter was seen facing Yash Dayal and Akash Deep in the nets. In Gill’s absence, Devdutt Padikkal came at number three for India but could not deliver.
