Rajasthan Royals have retained six players – Sanju Samson, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Riyan Parag, Dhruv Jurel, Shimron Hetmyer and Sandeep Sharma – ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction in November. Notably, Jos Buttler and Yuzvendra Chahal are not part of the retention list.

Ahead of the IPL retention deadline, there was uncertainty regarding wicketkeeper-batter Dhruv Jurel but the franchise decided to put faith on him. Acquired in the 2022 mega auction for Rs. 20 lakhs, Jurel has become a regular for the Royals and made his India debut recently.
Retaining these six players will cost the Royals Rs. 79 crore from their overall Rs. 120 crore purse.

Samson, Parag, and Sandeep were crucial for the Royals in making the IPL playoffs last season, with Samson and Parag having their best seasons yet. Parag was rewarded for the effort by earning an India cap. Sandeep had an impressive 2024 season, taking 13 wickets.
Jaiswal did not perform as well last season as in 2023 but remains a key player for the Royals.
Meanwhile, despite Buttler’s and Chahal’s past successes, the former had a moderate 2024 season, and the latter struggled with an economy rate of 9.41.
The deadline for submitting the list of retained players was October 31. Teams could have retained up to six players, with a limit of five being capped internationals and two uncapped players. The IPL had set minimum deduction amounts for retained players, but teams can choose to pay more or less.
