Rishabh Pant overtakes Virat Kohli in ICC Test rankings

NEW DELHI: Rishabh Pant moved up to sixth place in the ICC Test rankings for batsmen, surpassing teammate Virat Kohli on Wednesday.
Pant moved up three spots in the rankings after scoring a counterattacking 99 in the second innings of the first Test match against New Zealand, while Kohli, who scored a brilliant 70 in Bengaluru, fell to seventh place.
At number four, opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is still India’s top-ranked batter. Rohit Sharma, the captain of India, fell two spots to share 15th place with Dimuth Karunaratne of Sri Lanka.

Joe Root of England continues to hold a commanding lead at the top of the charts.
While compatriot Matt Henry (up two ranks to ninth with a new career-high rating) was the clear victor in the bowlers’ category, the New Zealand combo of Rachin Ravindra (up 36 places to 18th) and Devon Conway (up 12 spots to 36th) also made strong progress on the most recent list for Test bats.

India pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah continues to lead the bowlers’ standings, closely followed by teammate R Ashwin. Another Indian in the top 10 is Ravindra Jadeja, who continues to stay in the seventh spot.
