PCB chairman Naqvi holds talks with Emirates Board head amid hybrid model talks for Champions Trophy

NEW DELHI: PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi met with Emirates Cricket Board head Mubashir Usmani in Dubai. The meeting focused on discussions surrounding a potential “hybrid model” for hosting the upcoming Champions Trophy, scheduled for February-March next year.
A PCB statement following the meeting indicated Naqvi assured Usmani of Pakistan’s readiness to host the tournament. All preparations are reportedly proceeding as planned.
It’s worth noting that Usmani also serves as chairman of the ICC‘s associate members’ committee.

Naqvi emphasized Pakistan’s current stability and pledged state-level security for all participating teams.
He also confirmed that stadium construction work is on schedule. He added that Pakistani fans eagerly anticipate welcoming top teams and players to their country.
The ICC on Friday communicated to Pakistan a crucial decision regarding the Champions Trophy. Pakistan must either accept the proposed “hybrid” hosting model or risk being removed from the tournament. This ultimatum followed an inconclusive ICC executive board meeting stemming from Pakistan’s firm stance.
The emergency meeting in Dubai intended to finalize the tournament schedule. However, it failed to reach a consensus due to Pakistan’s continued rejection of the “hybrid” model. India remains unwilling to travel to Pakistan for security reasons.
Under the proposed “hybrid” model, India’s Champions Trophy matches would be held in the UAE.
