NEW DELHI: Mumbai Indians secured pacer Deepak Chahar for Rs 9.25 crore at the IPL 2025 mega auction in Jeddah on Monday. The bidding began with Mumbai Indians and Punjab Kings showing early interest, but the five-time champions eventually outbid their rivals.
Punjab withdrew just before the bidding crossed the Rs 8 crore mark, while Chennai Super Kings briefly entered the fray before being outbid by Mumbai.
Chahar, who entered the auction with a base price of Rs 2 crore, has been a key player for Chennai Super Kings since 2018.

Prior to his CSK stint, Chahar was part of the Rajasthan Royals in 2011 and 2012 and the now-defunct Rising Pune Supergiant in 2016 and 2017.
Chahar made a significant impact during CSK’s title-winning campaign in IPL 2018, claiming 10 wickets in 12 matches.
However, injuries hampered his recent seasons, forcing him to miss the entire 2022 edition and limiting him to 10 games in 2023 and 8 in 2024.

Now, he will bolster Mumbai Indians’ pace attack for the 2025 season.
