Mick Blue Scores Role in Netflix’s ‘Monsters’

LOS ANGELES — Mick Blue appears in Netflix’s hit series “Monsters: The Lyle and Erik Menendez Story,” portraying a Los Angeles County Jail inmate serving time alongside the infamous brothers.

Being cast in Ryan Murphy’s critically acclaimed true-crime anthology series marks Blue’s latest foray into mainstream acting, following his recent appearance on “General Hospital,” the longest-running American soap opera currently in production.

The 2022 XBIZ Male Performer of the Year described the unusually speedy process that landed him the part.

“I was on a flight from Vegas,” he reminisced. “I saw the audition call for a featured background actor, immediately sent in my audition, and three hours later I was booked for the role. It was a fast turnaround.”

For Blue, one of the highlights of working on the show was shooting his featured scenes in the jail’s communal showers, where an inmate pulls off Lyle Menendez’s toupee and the men surrounding him laugh at the spectacle.

Stepping onto the set in April, Blue was immediately struck by the scale of the production.

“It was my first time spending two and a half hours in makeup to get sticker tattoos,” he recalled. “They told me, ‘You look too nice — let’s get you tatted!’ It was a really great experience.

“I was lucky to be in a featured part where the audience can clearly see me,” Blue added. “Often, in background roles, you’re not as visible, but this time it all came together so quickly. You have to start with those little moments to get to the big ones.”

Blue told XBIZ that he is interested to see how the Menendez brothers’ story develops in the wake of the show and a new documentary that may shed more light on their case.

“I’m a huge fan of the show,” Blue said. “Cooper Koch and Nicholas Alexander Chavez are tremendous actors and Ryan Murphy is definitely one of the icons in the industry. I’m honored to have worked on one of his projects.”

With his “Monsters” appearance, Blue joins a small but growing roster of adult performers who have appeared in Murphy’s popular series.
