Karan Johar calls Ranveer Singh the ‘greenest flag,’ praises his Kathak skills in Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani: ‘He was amazing’

Karan Johar returned to directing with ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani‘, a romantic comedy starring Ranveer Singh and Alia Bhatt that was well-received. The film featured Alia’s character, Rani, challenging patriarchy, while Singh’s Rocky broke stereotypes. Johar praised Singh, calling him “the greenest flag,” particularly highlighting Singh’s Kathak dance sequence.
The filmmaker revealed that Ranveer trained for a month and a half for the Kathak dance sequence in ‘Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani’. Johar told Lilly Singh on her YouTube channel that Singh was not worried about the audience’s perception and that he just got into the skin of his character. Johar stated, “Ranveer is the greenest flag that you will find”.
Johar revealed Ranveer dedicated a month and a half to Kathak training. He recalled Singh’s initial doubts, but his commitment to giving it his all. Singh later admitted that he struggled to dance with essential grace in the dance form. “He called me at one point and said, “Look, I don’t think I have this Kathak bone in my body, but I’m gonna give it all,” said Karan.
Karan said Ranveer and Tota Roy Chowdhury, despite being untrained, “aced” the Kathak dance scene, performing in front of 500 people. After training with Vaibhavi Merchant, they danced with grace, like professionals. Johar stated that neither Singh nor Chowdhury questioned how they would come across; Singh was “amazing”.
