NEW DELHI: Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar on Saturday commended Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill for their stellar performances against Bangladesh in the first Test match in Chennai.
On Saturday, Gill scored an impressive 119 not out from 176 balls at a strike rate of 67.61 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. He hit 10 fours and 4 sixes during his time on the pitch.
Pant, on the other hand, played a commendable knock of 109 runs from 128 balls at a strike rate of 85.16.His innings ended when Mehidy Hasan Miraz dismissed him in the 56th over of India’s second innings.
Gill remained unbeaten during India’s second innings until skipper Rohit Sharma declared at 287 for 4.

By the end of day three, Bangladesh was at 158/4, with skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto (51*) and Shakib Al Hasan (5*) not out. Bangladesh had started the post-Tea session at 56/0 with Shadman Islam (21) and Zakir Hasan (32) at the crease.
Jasprit Bumrah struck early for India during the session, dismissing Zakir for 33 runs from 47 balls. Ravichandran Ashwin picked up the remaining three wickets, sending back Shadman Islam (35), Mominul Haque (13), and Mushfiqur Rahim (13).
The second session of day three resumed with India at 205/3, featuring Rishabh Pant (82*) and Shubman Gill (86*) at the crease. India’s lead extended to 432 runs.
Pant marked his comeback in the longest format with a century. Meanwhile, Gill continued his brilliant performance with an unbeaten knock of 119 runs.
Middle-order batter KL Rahul also contributed with a valuable unbeaten knock of 22 runs from 19 balls, comprising four boundaries.
India declared their innings at a score of 287/4, setting a challenging target of 515 runs for Bangladesh to win the first match of the series.
