‘Flight to nowhere’: British Airways plane returns back to London after 9 hours

A British Airways aircraft returned back to London after a nine-hour flight after facing technical issues, according to Business Insider. The total distance covered during this journey was approximately 4,000 miles.
The Boeing 777 departed from London approximately 30 minutes behind schedule on Tuesday morning for San José, Costa Rica and made an abrupt an abrupt U-turn over the Atlantic ocean after nearly five hours of travel. A typical flight duration to Costa Rica is approximately 10 hours.
“We’re sorry for the delay in our customers’ travel plans after their aircraft experienced a minor technical issue. Our teams looked after our customers during the delay and worked hard to get them on their way as quickly as possible,” a British Airways spokesperson told Business Insider.
Earlier in June, a Boeing 787 returned after covering 2,300 miles to Newfoundland, Canada, following detection of technical difficulties.
British Airways frequently opts to return aircraft to London airports when technical issues arise, as this facilitates simpler and more cost-effective arrangements for replacement flights and aircraft maintenance.
According to Flightradar24, the Boeing 777 involved in Tuesday’s incident resumed service the following day.
