Finding a suitable space in your home for sitting in silence or simply being present can greatly enhance your practice and concentration while meditating. Feng Shui can guide you in designing a meditation corner that will soothe and support you. But first, you must understand the basics.
Choosing the Right Location
First, select a quiet, private, and calm place. It’s a good idea to avoid highly traversed areas that are characterised by noises and distractions; however, some places are often more intimate and sheltered because they have a nook-and-corner feel. Try to put your meditation place nearer to a place like this, next to a window to bring natural light in, which will make the room fresh with new energy. However, make sure that what is outside is not too active as it may distraction. Consider a window that overlooks a meadow, a garden, or just the sky.
De-Clutter and Simplify
It is believed in Feng Shui that clutter blocks the flow of energy. Start by removing clutter from the meditation area. When a place is clean and free of clutter, it naturally feels lighter, so you will find yourself able to easily focus on your meditation practice. Only essentials, such as a meditation cushion or chair, and perhaps a little table or shelf for some personal stuff. You need to make an open and simple space where the mind finds it easy to relax.

Adding natural elements, for instance, plants, is essential in Feng Shui. Plants symbolise growth and life. They can then enhance your corner through fresh and renewable energy. In case there is no direct sunlight, opt for an easy-maintenance indoor plant that thrives well in areas with shadows. Add a sense of calm and ground yourself by using stones, crystals, or a small water feature, such as a tabletop fountain.
Use Soft, Calming Colours
Colours can even manipulate the energy of a space in Feng Shui. In a meditation corner, try soft, neutral colours such as white, beige, soft blues, or greens. Soft colours are helpful when it comes to assisting you in relaxing and focusing inwards, thereby calming your inner self.
