NEW DELHI: Rishabh Pant wrote an emotional parting letter to his former team, the Delhi Capitals, after joining the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) at the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 mega-auction.
During the current Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction, Pant was purchased by the Lucknow-based team for an astounding Rs 27 crores, making him the most expensive player in IPL history.

Pant took to his official social media handle to post “goodbyes are never easy.”
“Goodbyes are never easy. The journey with Delhi Capitals has been nothing short of amazing. From the thrills on the field to the moments off it, I’ve grown in ways I never imagined. I came here as a teenager and grew together over the last nine years,” Pant wrote.
Pant added that the fans have made his journey with Delhi Capitals all worthwhile.
“What made this journey all worthwhile is you, The fans.. You’ve embraced me, cheered for me and stood by me in one of the toughest phased of my life,” he added.
The wicketkeeper-batter added that he will look forward to entertaining the fans whenever he takes the field.
“As I move on, I carry your love and support in my heart. I’ll look forward to entertain you whenever I take the field. Thank you for being my family and making this journey so special,” he further added.
Delhi Capitals responded to Pant by posting: “Once in Dilli, always Dilli. We’ll miss you, but we’re sure you’ll be amazing wherever you go, Rishabh.”
Parth Jindal, a co-owner of the Delhi Capitals, too expressed regret over Pant’s exit from the team and expressed hope for a reunion soon.
Prior to the IPL mega auction, the Capitals released their captain, Pant, who attracted a record bid of Rs 27 crore from the Lucknow Super Giants.
On the first day of the auction, the Capitals attempted to reclaim the daring southpaw, but they were unable to match LSG’s offer after RTM was activated.
“To Rishabh @RishabhPant17 you are and will always remain my younger brother – from the bottom of my heart I love you and I have tried everything to make sure you are happy and have treated you like my family,” Jindal wrote in an emotional post on X.
The team is jointly owned by JSW Sports and GMR, and after disagreements with the team, Pant chose to put himself up for auction.
“I am very sad to see you go and I am very emotional about it. You will always be in DC and I hope one day we can reunite.
“Thank you for everything Rishabh and remember that we will always love you – go well champ, the world is at your feet. Best wishes from all of us at @DelhiCapitals – other than when you play DC I will be cheering and hoping for the best for you!” Jindal added.
